When they couldn't get rid of it, then they started coming up with varrious ways to "interpret" it to make it seem to say things it did not say, or not say things it did say.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;This is because believers for centuries have attributed the prophecies concerning Revelation, the beast and the harlot to refer to the Catholic Church and the Pope. So they have had to come up with ways to make it not seem like that is so.
